We Are Reforest Nation
Driven by Nature and United in Purpose, We Are Transforming Ireland’s Landscapes
What We Do
We’re a small, passionate team of environmentalists and volunteers working to restore Ireland’s ecosystems. By planting native trees, we help revive biodiversity, capture carbon, and rejuvenate the land. Alongside our own efforts, we collaborate with environmental projects across Ireland and beyond to create lasting change, one tree at a time.
Our Mission
We want to make it easy and affordable for everyone to play a role in environmental restoration. Reforest Nation is leading a nationwide movement to revive ecosystems across Ireland and beyond. Together, through tree planting and rewilding, we are creating lasting change for the future of our planet.
What Makes Us Unique?
-
It is disheartening to observe that it has become normal for many tree-planting groups in Ireland, often subsidiaries of larger corporations, to charge exorbitant fees of €25, €85, or even over €100 to plant a single tree. Remarkably, these are the same trees that might only cost €1 to acquire from the same nurseries we use. We strongly oppose this apparent exploitation of goodwill.
At Reforest Nation, we maintain a fair average cost of just €1.99 per tree planted, ensuring you can make the most significant impact possible.

Reforest Nation proudly leads the way in Ireland’s tree planting sector, setting the benchmark with our commitment to exclusively planting certified native Irish species. We offer robust, two-year-old specimens, sourced within Ireland, ranging from 50cm to towering over 2 meters—ensuring they are hardy, adaptable, and ready to contribute to the environment from day one.
Boasting a diverse array of up to 27 different native species, our initiative plants the widest variety in Ireland, cultivating forests rich in quality and biodiversity. Our lean and effective operations cut superfluous costs, permitting us to provide these quality trees at prices without equal. This approach democratises sustainability and underscores our unwavering pledge to nurturing the environment.
Additionally, Reforest Nation is at the forefront of innovative forestry with the introduction of the Miyawaki Method to Ireland. This cutting-edge technique boosts forest growth by an impressive 10X, increases carbon absorption by 10X, and amplifies biodiversity by a remarkable 100X compared to traditionally planted forests.
-
With the significant milestone of planting one million trees through our initiatives, Reforest Nation is propelled by grand ambitions to reshape landscapes on both a local and global scale. This achievement is a historic first for an Irish tree planting initiative, accomplished in a remarkably short period.
Building on this success, our next ambitious goal is to plant ten million trees by 2030. This commitment offers individuals like you a unique opportunity to be part of a movement that’s not just participating, but actively shaping a greener future for our planet

Our dedication to reforestation extends beyond Ireland’s landscapes. For every tree we plant locally, we also support critical reforestation efforts globally. In Madagascar, through our partnership with Eden People + Planet, we help restore vital mangrove ecosystems, which are crucial for biodiversity and absorb up to ten times more carbon than typical Irish trees. Similarly, in Kenya, we collaborate with Seedballs Kenya, an initiative that uses innovative seedball technology to reforest degraded areas, ensuring seeds are protected and able to germinate when conditions are right.
Our work goes beyond environmental restoration. By supporting these initiatives, we provide vital socio-economic benefits to local communities, particularly by employing women. This helps alleviate poverty, create sustainable income sources, and address challenges like desertification, soil erosion, and food and water security. Through these comprehensive efforts, we’re not just planting trees—we’re nurturing healthier ecosystems and empowering communities globally, creating lasting positive impacts.
-
At Reforest Nation, we are setting a new standard for transparency in Irish three planting intiatives. With interactive maps that clearly show where our trees are planted and comprehensive annual progress reports. We also offer a unique opportunity for our supporters to visit these sites, see the trees they have helped grow, and even participate in the planting process. This approach not only promotes transparency but also deepens your personal connection to our shared environmental goals.
Our Story
Reforest Nation was founded in 2021 with a simple mission: to make it easy and affordable for everyone to help restore our planet. I, Gearóid, a 20-year-old Wildlife Biology student, and my friend James, an Environmental Science student, shared a deep concern for the future of our natural world. Inspired by my father’s love for nature, we gathered a small group of volunteers in Termonfeckin, Co. Louth, and planted 5,000 trees in our first year.
By the second year, word spread, and with more volunteers and local communities, we planted 100,000 trees. What began as a small project became a movement uniting people to restore Ireland’s lost forests and confront the climate crisis.
Now, three years in, we’ve planted 1 million trees—the first Irish tree-planting initiative to reach such a milestone so quickly. None of this would have been possible without the amazing support of businesses, communities, and people like you. And we’re not stopping here. Our goal is to plant 10 million trees by 2030, and with your support, we’re well on our way.
For me, this project is personal. Like many youths, I struggled with depression over deforestation and the climate crisis. Reforest Nation has turned that despair into action and hope. With your help, we’re not just planting trees—we’re breathing life back into our planet and creating a future where nature and humanity thrive together.
