Reforest Nations Annual planting day
About:
We invite you to be part of something truly special – the creation of the Freedom Forest, nestled under the stunning Sugar Loaf Mountain in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. Together, we’ll plant thousands of trees to grow a vibrant forest, bringing new life to the land while honouring those affected by conflict
The Freedom Forest is dedicated to the people of Gaza and Ukraine, standing as a symbol of resilience, hope, and freedom for those facing unimaginable challenges. With your help, we’ll expand what is already Europe’s largest Miyawaki-inspired forest, creating a thriving ecosystem that will make a lasting impact.
What is the Miyawaki Method?
The Miyawaki method is an innovative reforestation technique that mimics how forests grow in nature. By planting native trees close together, they compete for light and nutrients, growing up to 10x times faster than standard plantations. In just a decade, the Freedom Forest will flourish into a dense, self-sustaining woodland.
What To Bring:
A shovel or spade
Warm clothes
Gloves
Bright colour clothing (we’ll be taking lots of photos to capture the day!)
A tenacious tree planting spirit!
Location and Parking:
Hawthorn hill (A63 H364), Ballydonagh Lane, Delgany, Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
We advise parking at Kindlestown Wood and proceeding the 3 minute walk on foot up Ballydonagh Lane. After passing the third house, look for a wooden entrance on your left, marked by a yellow sign saying ‘TREE PLANTING,’ then follow the yellow arrows that will guide you directly to the planting site. In the event that Kindlestown Wood's parking is at capacity, additional parking may be available at Hawthorn Hill property (A63 H364) and further up the laneway. For the most pleasant driving experience, we recommend approaching Ballydonagh Lane from its eastern end, near Greystones, as the lane's western portion is more rugged.

All 10,000 trees have now been allocated in record time!
About:
We’re thrilled to announce our biggest giveaway yet! Reforest Nation is gifting 10,000 native trees to individuals across Ireland who are ready to make a positive impact by rewilding their land or garden.
Every participant will receive a minimum of one bag containing 100 native saplings, allowing you to create your very own pocket of biodiversity.
Choose from four stunning species, each vital to Ireland’s natural heritage:
• Irish Oak – The king of the forest, supporting hundreds of species.
• Native Scot’s Pine – A majestic evergreen, perfect for wildlife.
• Wild Cherry – Bursting with blossoms in spring and berries in autumn.
• Rowan – The mountain ash, a symbol of protection and beauty.
There will also be a Tree Planting Day at the location of the giveaway and we would be thrilled if you could join us for it. This is your chance to practice planting techniques and learn how to give your new trees the best start, while also contributing to the creation of the Guru Nanak Freedom Forest under the stunning Sugar Loaf Mountain in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. After a rewarding day of planting together, you’ll collect your bag of trees to take home.
Conditions for Tree Collection
When you arrive – whether it’s first for the complimentary tree planting day, or directly for the tree giveaway – simply approach a member of the Reforest Nation team. They’ll be easy to spot in their signature rusty red hoodies.
Once you meet one of our team members, give them your name (as provided during registration). From there, we’ll confirm the number of trees you’ve registered for and hand over your trees.
It’s as simple as that – and we’ll be there to assist you every step of the way!

2024 Forest Viewing Day

About
Would you like to see the progress of the forest you helped create? Join us for an open day under the beautiful Sugar Loaf mountain to witness the growth of our 30,000-tree forest, planted just one year ago. This is the largest Miyawaki-style forest in all of Europe, a testament to your support and the power of community. The Miyawaki method transforms tiny saplings into a full-grown forest in just ten years by planting trees close together, creating a thriving mini-ecosystem.
This event is a special occasion for all our sponsors and supporters. Bring your families and loved ones to see the growth of the trees you sponsored or gifted. It’s a chance to connect with nature and see firsthand the impact of your contributions. We’ve named this forest the Freedom Forest, in honour of all the refugees and displaced people around the world who are fighting for their own freedom.
We’re excited to share this incredible journey with you and celebrate the difference your support has made. So, what do you say? Want to join us and be a part of something truly amazing?
Location and Parking:
Hawthorn hill (A63 H364), Ballydonagh Lane, Delgany, Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
We recommend parking at Kindlestown Wood and then taking the 3-minute walk up Ballydonagh Lane. After passing the fourth house on the left, marked with a sign saying “Hawthorn Hill,” walk up the driveway. You’ll see a gate with arrows, and there will be people there to greet you and guide you up to the forest. If parking at Kindlestown Wood is full, additional parking may be available at the Hawthorn Hill property (A63 H364) and further up the laneway. For a smoother driving experience, we suggest approaching Ballydonagh Lane from the eastern end near Greystones, as the western portion of the lane is rougher.
